Abbi Vawter will graduate from Norman High School this spring. She plans to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University, where she will pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre. Abbi is excited to grow as an actress in college. She is looking forward to moving to a new town and meeting new people!
While in high school Abbi was a member of Chorale and Jazz Choir. She was also involved with Tigerpalooza, where she was on Royalty. Through that, she was able to fundraise at events like powerpuff, dodgeball, and bubble soccer. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with her friends and boyfriend, going to concerts, and working at il Dolce Gelato! When asked what she would miss most about high school, Abbi said, “I’ll miss seeing all my lifelong friends all the time, football games, assemblies, and school dances.”
Abbi has been a student at ArtWorks Academy for 12 years. She did her first ArtWorks Academy production the summer before she started Kindergarten. Some of her favorite AWA productions were: Mamma Mia (Sophie), Curtains (Niki), The Drowsy Chaperone (Kitty), Footloose (Urleen), and Urinetown (Josephine “Old Ma” Strong)!
As a founding member of Musical Theatre Company, her involvement in MTC has brought her many of her favorite memories. She loves performing at the Oklahoma City Festival of the Arts every year, as well as performing at the Newcastle Fourth of July Celebration! Abbi said the atmosphere at ArtWorks Academy is what she will miss the most. She said, “It’s just such a beautiful community that I just love so much!”
When asked what the biggest lesson she learned from ArtWorks Academy was, Abbi said, “I learned to break out of my shell and become truly who I am and not be scared of judgment.” She said, “The arts have given me a home and a passion like no other. There truly is no feeling like stepping onto a stage and looking out into an audience. I think the arts have made me a stronger-willed person. Once I set my mind on an idea I will do anything and everything to achieve that goal.”
We asked Abbi who her biggest inspiration in life was. She said, “My biggest inspirations are my parents. They’re such hard workers and always encourage me to do my best at everything I do!”
A Note from ArtWorks Academy…
It has been a joy to watch Abbi grow from a shy little five-year-old girl to a confident young woman. She has been a constant at ArtWorks Academy for the last 12 years and it is hard to imagine what AWA will be like without her. She took advantage of every performance opportunity she could – always seeking to challenge herself and grow. We appreciate her leadership, kindness, and positivity. We know great things are in store for her. We can’t wait to watch her continue on this musical theatre journey as she continues to hone her craft at the collegiate level.
