Saturday Rehearsals

Some Saturday rehearsals will be required.  In order to use class time as efficiently as possible, we try not to block scenes or teach songs with small groups of students during the regular class time. We have additional rehearsals on Saturdays, so the class time can be used for songs and scenes involving the majority of the cast. We notify all students and parents of the potential Saturday rehearsals at the beginning of each semester.  There are generally one to two per month, but not all students will be called.   We give you a chance to let us know in advance of any conflicts you have on the scheduled Saturday rehearsals.

Attendance Policy

Attendance to all classes and rehearsals is imperative. All students, whether a leading role or ensemble, are an integral part of the show. If a student misses a rehearsal it affects the entire cast. Each student will be required to fill out a conflict calendar before auditioning. We plan our casting and rehearsals around foreseeable conflicts. Any absences not given to us prior to auditions, will be subject to approval. We understand that illness and conflicts will arise.  We will try to be as understanding and accommodating as possible.

Students missing more than three classes or Saturday rehearsals per semester may not be allowed to participate in the production unless private lessons (at the rate of $25 per half hour) are arranged with the instructor. This is to ensure that everyone is prepared for the performance.

Production Fee

Students enrolling in Production Company will be charged a Production Fee each semester. This fee helps cover the cost of theatre rental, costumes, set, props, equipment rental, etc. The Production Fee is $125. The payment is divided into two installments of $62.50. The payment due dates are as follows:

Fall 2023: September 7 (1st payment) and October 19 (2nd payment)

Spring 2024:  February 8 (1st payment) and March 25 (2nd payment)

Auditions

Everyone who enrolls in a Production Company class will be cast  in the show.  Each student must audition for roles.  Auditions are held during the second or third week of class (depending upon the semester) and students are asked to prepare one song for auditions.  Songs should be around 32 bars (or less than one minute). Songs should also reflect the style of the show for which the student is auditioning. An accompanist will be provided for the audition. Each student should bring sheet music with the starting point and the ending point clearly marked.  Students may NOT use recorded accompaniment and must audition with the accompanist provided.

During the first class of the semester, students will learn about the audition process and will be taught the dance they will use for their audition. They will also be given an audition form and conflict calendar, which should be filled out and brought back with them to auditions (or submitted electronically, if requested).

The first day of auditions will consist of students singing their selected song as well as dancing. If time allows, we will begin singing and reading for roles.  All students need to bring a resume to auditions and dress nicely for the audition.  We will discuss these things on the first day of class and send a sample resume home.

During the second day of auditions, we will continue to sing and read for roles. Due to time constraints, we will not be able to read and sing every student for every role.
