They genuinely care about her and want to see her succeed, in dance and in life. ArtWorks is our forever dance home and we know you will adore it just as much as we do!” –April Holzberlein

Forever Plaid

This summer we will be producing Forever Plaid with rising 9th-12th grade students and 2024 grads. This is an all male class. It is audition only, meaning students must audition to be cast and we will select those we feel will be the best fit for the production.  The cast includes only four males, with the possibility of us double casting to create two casts of four.  The music is in the style of barbershop quartet, so we are looking for males with experience in this style or ability to sing four-part harmony, while carrying their own part independently.

About Forever Plaid

Forever Plaid is one of the most popular and successful musicals in recent memory. This deliciously fun revue is chock-full of classic barbershop quartet harmonies and pitch-perfect melodies!

Once upon a time, there were four guys (Sparky, Smudge, Jinx and Frankie) who discovered that they shared a love for music and then got together to become their idols – The Four Freshman, The Hi-Lo’s and The Crew Cuts. Rehearsing in the basement of Smudge’s family’s plumbing supply company, they became “Forever Plaid”. On the way to their first big gig, the “Plaids” are broadsided by a school bus and killed instantly. It is at the moment when their careers and lives end that the story of Forever Plaid begins….

Singing in close harmony, squabbling boyishly over the smallest intonations and executing their charmingly outlandish choreography with overzealous precision, the “Plaids” are a guaranteed smash, with a program of beloved songs and delightful patter that keeps audiences rolling in the aisles when they’re not humming along to some of the great nostalgic pop hits of the 1950s. Auditions:

This production is audition only, meaning students must audition to be cast and we will select those we feel will be the best fit for the production.

  • Students should prepare a song for their vocal audition in the style of Forever Plaid. It should be less than one minute in length and should show us their vocal range.
  • The initial vocal audition should be submitted via a self-tape (video audition). Students will need their own accompaniment track when they video their audition.
  • Videos are due by the end of the day on May 11.
  • Some students will be called back on Thursday, May 16. They will prepare some cuts from the show, which they will receive in advance.
  • At callbacks, Sammy will have the students sing in groups of four to see how they work together and their abilities to sing four-part harmony
  • Callbacks will also include an acting portion where they will read sides from the show
  • Callbacks will be Thursday, May 16 from 6:00-8:00 pm

Again, auditioning does NOT guarantee you will be cast in the show. There are limited roles for this production.

Students going into 7th-12th grade should also consider auditioning for High School Musical 2. Females going into 9th-12th grade, and 2024 grads, should consider auditioning for Six: Teen Edition. Both auditions are on June 20, with callbacks on June 21-22.

Rehearsals: Students will rehearse from 6:00-8:30 pm on Tuesdays and from 4:45-7:15 pm on Thursdays, June 20 through July 25.  There is an extraordinary amount of challenging music in Forever Plaid, so our Music Director, Sammy Waganer, will begin working with the cast some toward the end of May and beginning of June. We will be working around our MTC Concert, Newsies, and Titanic, so he will find times that work for the cast. We will have mandatory rehearsals every night the week of July 22.

Performances: Performances for Forever Plaid will be Friday-Sunday, July 26-28, 2024.  We will announce the performance times after casting is finalized.

Grades: 9th-12th, 2024 grads

Cost: Tuition is $395, which includes a production fee to help cover the production expenses.

Six: Teen Edition

This summer we will be producing Six: Teen Edition with rising 9th-12th grade students and 2024 grads. It is audition only, meaning students must audition to be cast and we will select those we feel will be the best fit for the production.  The cast includes only six females.  We will likely double cast, creating two casts of six. There is an option for this production to have a small ensemble. We may or may not cast an ensemble and will decide so at the time of casting.

About Six: Teen Edition

Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived. From Tudor Queens to Pop Icons, the SIX wives of Henry VIII take the mic to remix five hundred years of historical heartbreak into a Euphoric Celebration of 21st-century girl power! This new original musical is the global sensation that everyone is losing their head over.

The New York Times says SIX is “pure entertainment!” and the Evening Standard hails SIX as “the most uplifting new British musical I have ever had the privilege to watch.”

SIX: TEEN EDITION includes all songs from the original version, with reimagined lines and lyrics to minimize suggestive language and alternate line changes to reframe UK references for a US audience. (from concordtheatricals.com)  While adapted, there are still some themes that are more mature.
