“My son is a musician who has benefited from ArtWorks Academy’s commitment to live orchestra music. He absolutely loves being a part of the productions here!” -Lancia B. (parent of current OCU Music Education/Percussion Performance major)
We believe every child should have access to a music education that is challenging, engaging and fun. A solid music education not only instills strong musical and technical fundamentals, but also fosters an appreciation for the arts in general. Our faculty is passionate about discovering and developing music talent in each student.
Our instructors provide opportunities for substantial growth for students of all ages and levels. Students are provided with ample performing and learning opportunities. They have the option to participate in student concerts, ensembles, master classes and other performance opportunities.
“My daughter, Camdyn, has been attending ArtWorks Academy for a couple of years now and has been in five different performances. This year we decided to try to increase her self-confidence by enrolling her in private voice lessons. Mica gave her the confidence and stage presence that she needed to further her theater journey. Camdyn has a newfound spark and assurance in her voice. We can’t thank ArtWorks and Mica enough for their guidance and teaching.” -Cortni H.
ArtWorks Academy music students can participate in the Music Achievement Award Program through Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). The achievement program helps encourage students to continue their music study and to strive to achieve goals that will not only help them become better musicians, but also will enhance their love and appreciation of music. In addition, this program encourages students to seek a well-rounded music education beyond the private lesson. The instructor sets goals that are both realistic and attainable for each individual student according to the student’s needs, ability and motivational level. If the student achieves the goals over a specified period of time, they will receive a Music Achievement Award.
In 2011 ArtWorks Academy formed our first live orchestra for the musical, Jane Eyre, which was under the direction of Lynn Herbel. This was the beginning of a longstanding tradition to have a live orchestra for our Senior Production Company shows.
We are happy to provide opportunities to young adults who are seeking additional opportunities to collaborate with other musicians. We believe it is incredibly important for our students to experience singing with live accompaniment. We don’t have an orchestra for every show, but we do have one at least once a year.
Many of the orchestra members started as high school students playing in our shows and have since gone off to college and some have graduated. They keep coming back, because they love playing with each other and being part of the process as a whole. We are so thankful for all of the musicians who help us bring our shows to life!
