Musical Theatre Company (MTC) was formed as a response to students seeking out additional performance opportunities. This company is currently for students in 4th-12th grade. For those students who really want to be challenged and further their musical theatre training, this company is for them. Company members get the opportunity to perform at various festivals and functions throughout the year. They are held to the highest standard and expected to give 100%.

Students must audition to be a member of this company.   Students must also be enrolled in Production Company to work on technique and performance skills.

Important Information

Class Time

During the school year Senior Company (9th-12th grade) will rehearse on Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30 pm and Junior Company (4th-8th grade) on Wednesdays from 5:00-6:00 pm.

During the summer, MTC members are required to take ballet.

Performance Opportunities

During the fall semester MTC members work on Christmas repertoire.  They perform their annual Christmas Concert in December.

During the spring semester students work on songs from various musicals and perform at the OKC Festival of the Arts and also their own Spring Concert, which is usually the end of May or beginning of June.

Other performance opportunities present themselves throughout the year.

Auditions

Students are required to audition to participate in MTC. Auditioning does NOT guarantee placement as a member.  We will select those we feel will be the best fit for MTC.

  • Auditions will be Thursday, June 20 at 4:00 pm or 6:00 pm
  • If you will be out of town during auditions, please contact us in advance, so we can arrange another audition time for you.  You can call (405) 397-1824 or email Katie Morris at katie@artworksacademy.com.
  • Those auditioning should prepare one song from a musical.  We will not have an accompanist for this audition, so students will need to bring recorded accompaniment.
  • They should also come prepared for a dance audition.  The dance will be taught to them at auditions and they will dance in small groups for the audition portion.

How to sign up for auditions

  • Please sign your child up to audition on Thursday, June 20 at 4:00 or 6:00 pm
  • If your child also plans to audition for High School Musical 2. (7th-12th grade) or Six: Teen Edition (Females in 9th-12th grade, 2024 grads), which are at the same time as MTC auditions, please sign up for both auditions.
  • They will use the same song to audition for both and do not need to audition twice, but we need to know who is auditioning for each.  If they plan to audition at 6:00 pm, for instance, please register for the MTC audition and High School Musical 2/Six: Teen Edition audition that are scheduled for 6:00 pm (if they plan to audition for both).
  • Click on the link below and log in to your account or create an account if you are new.
  • Once you have done so you will see a link to a page that says, “Auditions Summer 2024”. Once there, select the audition(s) and enroll.

Learning Process

Musical Theatre Company is designed to train young performers through the use of Broadway/Musical Theatre repertoire.  Students will cultivate their skills as vocalists and dancers. Each student is given the tools needed to become a successful, confident artist. In addition to the skills gained in the areas of singing, dancing and acting, students grow in confidence and character, while learning the importance of teamwork.

Mixed-Age Learning

By mixing ages in MTC, we are able to create a family of performers who support and care for one another.  Our older students are given the opportunity to serve as mentors and take leadership roles. Our younger students rise to the challenge, as the bar has already been set high for them. Our instruction and expectations are based on ability, interest, and development, not just age.

Musical Theatre Company Legacy

Musical Theatre Company is known for being a top-notch performance troupe.  Our successful alumni are evidence of the solid foundation we are laying at AWA. Our graduates paved the way and left a legacy.  Our current members continue to raise the bar higher and higher.

MTC was asked to perform with ABBA Mania when their tour brought them to OKC.
