Introduce your child to something new and unique, with Dance Cirque at ArtWorks Academy! This class offers something for all ages and abilities. Dance Cirque is great for boys and girls, and you don’t have to be a dancer or have previous experience to join! Our innovative program includes interactive circuits, using apparatus like lyra (hoops), silks and trapeze and ground skills like juggling and hula hoops, all under the supervision of our certified and qualified instructors. Your child will be inspired to learn new skills and have a blast while exploring the world of circus arts.

SILKS

Silks, also known as Tissu, originated from French circus culture. Students perform acrobatics, strength, and contortion using strong fabric draped from the ceiling. They use the fabric to wrap, suspend, swing, and spiral their body in and out of tricks and poses.

LYRA

The aerial hoop, commonly known as lyra, is one of the most popular apparatuses in the circus.  The circular steel ring (resembling a hula hoop) suspended from the ceiling can be used static, spinning, or swinging. Students build strength and confidence while performing aerial acrobatics.

TRAPEZE

One of the oldest apparatuses in circus history, trapeze is popular for ages two and up. Students get to hang, spin, and live their ultimate trapeze artist fantasy, all while gaining strength, flexibility, and having fun!

JUGGLING

The art of juggling dates back thousands of years and is an important circus tradition! Our instructors teach you how to keep scarves, balls, and rings in the air! Students learn juggling principles, including throw and catch technique, timing, and rhythm.

POI

Poi is a magical juggling prop. It creates amazing illusions and transitions, while teaching students coordination and kinesthetic awareness. Poi involves swinging tethered weights through a variety of rhythmical and geometric patterns.

DANCE CIRQUE SCHEDULE

Dance Cirque students will learn fundamental skills in aerial silks and juggling scarfs. They will also develop strength through their drills which is then directly transferred into the air. Once students complete their level card, they will move up a level. Students are encouraged to move at their own pace and multiple levels can be taught within the same class. View what is achieved in each level, below the schedule.

Classes for the 2023-2024 Season begin August 26, 2023
