Spring Master Classes
In addition to the training students receive from the faculty at ArtWorks Academy, they also have the opportunity to attend master classes taught by industry professionals. This spring we will offer four master classes.
Audition Master Class with Stephanie Long
| In January, students will have the opportunity to attend a Musical Theatre Audition Master Class with Stephanie Long. The master class will help students prepare for auditions for the spring musical, as well as auditions elsewhere. This class is free for current students and $40 for students not enrolled at the time of the class.
Stephanie Long is a professional actress who has worked in Regional, New York, and National Tour productions. After graduating from The University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Music: Music Theatre, she moved to New York where she continued her training in the Kimberly Vaughn Performance Studio and Jen Waldman Studio, as well as with many independent Audition and Performance Coaches. |
3rd-6th Grade Master Class
Saturday, January 16 from 1:00-3:00 pm
This class will focus on the structure of the audition process including working with the accompanist, dealing with nerves, making a strong introduction, and staying focused and audible.
7th-12th Grade Master Class
Saturday, January 23 from 2:00-4:00 pm
This class will expand on the basic structure, teaching techniques to help with a strong entrance and exit, connecting with the "table", handling mistakes and frustrating circumstances, choosing appropriate and clearly marked music, and more. This master class will cover every aspect of the audition, other than the performance portion. Time permitting, there may be some solo song interpretation sessions, touching on the emotion and performance of the actual song.
Broadway Connection Master Classes
Broadway Connection master classes connect students with performing artists currently touring with a Broadway musical. The master class will focus on dance technique, particularly in the genre of contemporary musical theatre jazz. Students will also have the opportunity to ask questions and find out more about performing and touring from an Equity actor.
$30 for current ArtWorks Academy students
$40 for students not currently enrolled
Kindergarten-6th Grade Master Class: The Wizard of Oz
Saturday, February 20 from 10:00 am-12:00 pm
Lauren Patton is thrilled to be performing in the ensemble and understudying Dorothy in the National Tour of The Wizard of Oz. Lauren began studying dance, acting, and musical theatre at a very young age and continued training with an Internship at The Gate Theatre of London and a First and Second Year Apprenticeship at the Flat Rock Playhouse. She then earned a B.F.A in Musical Theatre from Elon University. Her touring, regional and off-Broadway credits include Joseph… Dreamcoat, Cinderella, Thoroughly Modern Mille, Kiss Me, Kate, Rootabaga! A Musical, Cabaret, Carousel, and West Side Story! Lauren teaches master classes around the world and continues to work with national competitions. She is a proud Broadway Connection teacher who is inspired by every new student!
7th-12th Grade Master Class: Legally Blonde
Saturday, January 16 from 10:00 am-12:00 pm
Sara Andreas is thrilled to be in the First National Broadway Tour of Legally Blonde, directed and choreographed by Tony Award Winner, Jerry Mitchell! She was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA where she graduated from the prestigious Hamilton Academy of Music and continued her studies at the University of Miami. She was proud to graduate magna cum laude with a BFA in Musical Theatre. Sara moved to New York City where she has performed Off-Broadway with the JARADOA Theatre Co., and The Connelly Theatre. Regionally, Sara has performed in Sweet Charity, Guys and Dolls, and Kiss Me Kate at theatres including The Madrid Theatre and The Musical Theatre West. Sara has also earned her Screen Actors Guild (SAG) card by performing on NBC, WB, FOX, and CBS programming. She is a proud member of Actors Equity who loves teaching and sharing her experience with aspiring students across the country!

Beginning Musical Theatre: Kindergarten-2nd Grade
This fun and exciting class introduces children to the fundamentals of musical theatre. Students will explore singing, acting and dancing as they build their repertoire in preparation for a short performance at the end of the last class of the fall semester. This class will give students a solid foundation, which will prepare them for Production Company classes.
During the spring semester students will perform with our Junior Production Company members in their production of Annie, Jr., June 10-11, 2010.
Some Saturday rehearsals are required toward the end of the semester. In addition to the $40.00 monthly tuition, there is also a $40.00 Production Fee due during the spring semester. This fee helps cover the cost of costumes, theatre rental, set, props, etc. Click here for more details.

ArtWorks Academy believes performing provides opportunities for growth and development. Collaborating with peers to produce a play or musical teaches students the importance of teamwork, while building self-confidence. ArtWorks Academy productions are open to students with varying levels of experience in 3rd-12th grade.
Each semester this class will rehearse and perform a full-length musical. Students will be instructed in every aspect of the production process. Auditions will be held during the second week of class. All enrolled students will be cast in the production. Each student will have their moment to shine!
Annie, Jr.
Junior Production Company: 3rd-6th Grade

Performances on June 10-11, 2010 (possible performance on June 12, depending upon enrollment)
Leapin' Lizards! The popular comic strip heroine takes centerstage in one of the world's best-loved musicals. Annie is a spunky Depression-era orphan determined to find her parents, who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and finds a new family and home in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

PLEASE NOTE: Because the classes are already in session and closed for the fall semester, when you enroll in Production Company you will be enrolling on a waiting list. By mid-December we will know which current students will not be returning for the spring semester and how many spots we will have available. At that time we will let you know if there is a spot for your child in the class, or if they will remain on the waiting list. If the waiting list is large enough for us to open up another class, we will add the section on Wednesday from 6:45-8:15 pm. Please let us know if you are interested in enrolling in the Wednesday section, rather than the Thursday class. If we open the class on Wednesday, we will notify you by email.
Crazy For You
Senior Production Company: 7th-12th Grade

CRAZY FOR YOU™ is the story of Bobby Child, a well-to-do 1930's playboy, who's dream in life is to dance. And despite the serious efforts of his mother and soon-to-be-ex-fiancee, Bobby achieves his dream! Memorable Gershwin tunes include "I Can't Be Bothered Now", "Bidin' My Time", "I Got Rhythm", "Naughty Baby", "They Can't Take That Away from Me", "But Not for Me", "Nice Work if You Can Get It", "Embraceable You" and "Someone to Watch Over Me". It's a high energy comedy which includes mistaken identity, plot twists, fabulous dance numbers and classic Gershwin music.
