Production Company (3rd-12th grade)

Tuition

Tuition  for  Production Company is $57 per month (3rd-7th grade)  OR  $87 per month (7th-12th grade).  Discounts are given if students take multiple classes.  For example, students enrolled in Production Company (7th-12th grade) and two 1-hour Senior Level dance classes will pay $125.00 per month.  This is based on the students enrolling in four and a half hours of class per week.  Four and half hours of class would cost $200.00 per month, without the discount.  For more information on how our tuition is determined, visit the main tuition and policies page.

Attendance Policy

Attendance to all classes and rehearsals is imperative. All students, whether a leading role or ensemble, are an integral part of the show. If a student misses a rehearsal it affects the entire cast. Each student will be required to fill out a conflict calendar before auditioning. We plan our casting and rehearsals around foreseeable conflicts. Any absences not given to us prior to auditions, will be subject to approval. We understand that illness and conflicts will arise.  We will try to be as understanding and accommodating as possible.

Students missing more than 3 classes or Saturday rehearsals per semester will not be allowed to participate in the production unless private lessons (at the rate of $22 per half hour) are arranged with the instructor. This is to ensure that everyone is prepared for the performance.

Class Attire

Students should wear clothes that allow for ease of movement. Girls should not wear skirts or dresses. Street shoes MAY NOT be worn on the dance floor. Required shoes will be dependent upon the production:

Production Company GIRLS (3rd-7th grade): Tan Grecian Sandals

Production Company GIRLS (7th-12th grade): Tan Character Heels

Production Company BOYS (3rd-12th grade): Black dress/character shoes

Auditions

Everyone who enrolls in a  Production Company class  will be cast  in the show.  Each student must audition for roles.  Auditions are held during the second or third week of class (depending upon the semester) and students are asked to prepare a song for auditions. Songs should be around 32 bars (or less than one minute). Songs should also reflect the style of the show for which the student is auditioning. An accompanist will be provided for the audition. Each student should bring sheet music with the starting point and the ending point clearly marked. Students who would prefer to audition with a CD accompaniment are welcome to do so. The CD should have instrumental accompaniment only (no vocals). Senior Production Company students may NOT use a CD and must audition with the accompanist provided.

During the first class of the semester, students will learn about the audition process and will be taught the dance they will use for their audition. Students will also learn a portion of a song, which they are welcome to sing for their audition. They will also be given an audition form and conflict calendar, which should be filled out and brought back with them to auditions.

The first day of auditions will consist of students singing their selected song as well as dancing. If time allows, we will begin singing and reading for roles.  All students need to bring a resume to auditions and dress nicely for the audition.  We will discuss these things on the first day of class and send a sample resume home.

During the second day of auditions, we will continue to sing and read for roles. We will not be able to read and sing every student for every role. If a student is not asked to read for a specific role for which they would like to be considered, they are welcome to ask the director to read and sing for the role before they leave.

Saturday Rehearsals

Additional rehearsals are required outside of the normal class time.   Students are  called  for a maximum of six-eight Saturday rehearsals during the semester, depending upon which show they are in.  These rehearsals are required and any conflicts should be listed on the conflict calendar.  Specific rehearsal times and cast members called will be announced closer to each date.

Production Week

Production week is the last week of class. All rehearsals during this week will take place at the theatre. The productions will be performed at Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College. The theatre is approximately one minute from ArtWorks Academy!

All rehearsals during this week will include the entire cast. Students are required to be at all rehearsals or they will not be able to participate in the performance. Prior to production week, each family will receive a packet with specific information about the production including rehearsal times, costume information and what to bring to the theatre.
