Musical Theatre Policies
Please make sure you read the policies applicable to all students as well as those specific to musical theatre students, which are as follows:
Beginning Musical Theatre (K-2nd Grade)
Production Fee
Beginning Musical Theatre students will perform in Disney's Beauty and the Beast, May 29-31, 2009 with our Production Company members. Students will be called for a couple of Saturday rehearsals with our older students and will be required to attend all rehearsals during Production Week.
Students enrolling in this class will be charged a Production Fee. This fee helps cover the cost of theatre rental, costumes, set, props, equipment rental, etc. The Production Fee is $40.00. The payment is divided into two installments of $20.00. The first payment is due by February 10 and the final payment is due by March 10.
Prior to the performance, each family will receive a production packet with specific information about the production including dress rehearsal times, call times, and costume care.
Class Attire
Students should wear comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement and being on the floor. Tennis shoes or dance shoes are preferred. Please do not wear sandals or non-dance skirts.
Production Company (8-18 Year Olds)
Tuition
Tuition for Production Company is $85.00 per month. Discounts are given if students take multiple classes. For example, students taking Production Company and the three Senior Level dance classes will pay $135.00 per month. This is based on the students enrolling in five hours of class per week. Five hours of class would cost $200.00 per month, without the discount. For more information on hour tuition is determined, visit the main tuition and policies page.
Production Fee
Students enrolling in Production Company are required to pay a Production Fee each semester they are enrolled. This fee helps cover the cost of theatre rental, costumes, set, props, equipment rental, etc. The Production Fee is $75.00. The payment is divided into two installments of $37.50. The first payment is due by October 15 and the final payment is due by November 15.
Attendance Policy
Attendance to all classes and rehearsals is imperative. All students, whether a leading role or ensemble, are an integral part of the show. If a student misses a rehearsal it affects the entire cast. Each student will be required to fill out a conflict calendar before auditioning. We plan our casting and rehearsals around foreseeable conflicts. Any absences not given to us prior to auditions, will be subject to approval. We understand that illness and conflicts will arise. We will try to be as understanding and accommodating as possible.
Class Attire
Comfortable clothing that you can "move" in, (girls - no skirts). Tennis shoes or dance shoes should be worn at all times (no bare feet, sandals, crocs or flip flops). These classes include some dancing and being on the floor, please dress to allow for this movement, or bring a change of clothes with you.
Auditions
Everyone who enrolls in a Production Company class will be cast in the show. Each student must audition for roles. Auditions are held during the second week of class and students are asked to prepare a song for auditions. Songs should be around 32 bars (or less than one minute). Songs should also reflect the style of the show for which the student is auditioning. An accompanist will be provided for the audition. Each student should bring sheet music with the starting point and the ending point clearly marked. Students who would prefer to audition with a CD accompaniment are welcome to do so. The CD should have instrumental accompaniment only (no vocals).
During the first class of the semester, students will learn about the audition process and will be taught the dance they will use for their audition. Students will also learn a portion of a song, which they are welcome to sing for their audition. They will also be given an audition form and conflict calendar, which should be filled out and brought back with them to auditions.
The first day of auditions will consist of students singing their selected song as well as dancing. If time allows, we will begin singing and reading for roles.
During the second day of auditions, we will continue to sing and read for roles. We will not be able to read and sing every student for every role. If a student is not asked to read for a specific role for which they would like to be considered, they are welcome to ask the director to read and sing for the role before they leave.
