Beginning Musical Theatre:  Kindergarten-2nd Grade

This  fun  and exciting class introduces children to the fundamentals of musical theatre.  Students will explore singing, acting and dancing as they build their repertoire in preparation for a short performance at the end of the last class of the fall semester.  This class will give students a solid foundation, which will prepare them for Production Company classes.

During the spring semester students will perform with our Junior Production Company members in the spring musical.  Some Saturday rehearsals are required toward the end of the spring semester. In addition to the $40.00 monthly tuition, there is also a $40.00 Production Fee due during the spring semester.  The Thursday section is now full. You will need to enroll your child in the Wednesday section. If you absolutely cannot attend the Wednesday class, please enroll on the waiting list for the Thursday class. We will do what we can to accommodate all students.

Improvisational Acting

Students will learn the principals, techniques and theories involved in the spontaneity of improvisational acting. By focusing on specifics, such as relationship, environment and action, students will be better equipped to handle cold readings as well as the unpredictable nature of live theatre. In addition, students will learn to infuse a scene with their character’s personality, both physically and emotionally.

   

Junior Production Company:  3rd-7th Grade

ArtWorks  Academy  believes  performing  provides  opportunities  for  growth  and  development. Collaborating with peers to produce a play or musical teaches students the importance of teamwork, while building self-confidence. ArtWorks Academy productions are open to students with varying levels of experience in 3rd-7th grade.

Each semester this class will rehearse and perform a full-length musical. Students will be instructed in every aspect of the production process. Auditions will be held during the second week of class. All enrolled students will be cast in the production. Each student will have their moment to shine!

Join Alice's madcap adventures in Wonderland as she chases the White Rabbit, races the Dodo Bird, gets tied up with the Tweedles, raps with a bubble-blowing Caterpillar, and beats the Queen of Hearts at her own game! Roles are plentiful, including three Cheshire Cats and dozens of other wonderfully wacky characters. This fast-paced stage adaptation of Alice in Wonderland features updated dialogue and new arrangements of such classic Disney songs as "I'm Late," "The Un-birthday Song" and "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah." The Monologue (FALL)  

In this class students will learn the importance of a monologue as a catalyst to move the story forward or reveal the inner thoughts of a character. Through the use of published material students will discover the different types of monologues including dramatic, comedic and soliloquy.  

    

Acting the Song (FALL) 
   
Through the use of Broadway songs students will explore the emotional and physical aspects of the scene within the song by discovering the subtext of the lyrics. 
      

     

Musical Theatre Scene Study (SPRING) 
   
Musical theatre literature is used to explore different periods and styles of classic and contemporary musical theatre works. Students will apply acting, singing and dancing techniques to their scene studies.

   

Senior Production Company:  7th-12th Grade

Godspell

 

Senior Production Company:  7th-12th Grade

Classes begin August 30, 2010

Performances January 7-9, 2011

Based  on  the  Gospel  According  to  St.  Matthew,  and  featuring  a  sparkling  score  by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Children of Eden), Godspell boasts a string of well-loved songs, led by the international hit, "Day By Day." As the cast performs "Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord," "Learn Your Lessons Well," "All For The Best," "All Good Gifts," "Turn Back, O Man" and "By My Side," the parables of Jesus Christ come humanly and hearteningly to life.
