MTC students may also enroll in Hip Hop, Modern, Pointe (with teacher permission) at no additional cost.


    

Theatre Dance (FALL)   

Theatre Dance focuses on the dance elements of musical theatre. Through the use of original Broadway musical repertoire as well as new choreography, students will learn technique and style, with an emphasis on performance skills.

    

Improvisational Acting (SPRING) 

Students will learn the principals, techniques and theories involved in the spontaneity of improvisational acting. By focusing on specifics, such as relationship, environment and action, students will be better equipped to handle cold readings as well as the unpredictable nature of live theatre. In addition, students will learn to infuse a scene with their character’s personality, both physically and emotionally.     

   

Senior Project

This experience for seniors centers on a practical project, which will help to prepare students for their chosen area of future studies.

    

Production Company

Each semester this class will rehearse and perform a full-length musical. Students will be instructed in every aspect of the production process. Auditions will be held during the second week of class. All enrolled students will be cast in the production. 

    

Ballet

Ballet is the foundation of all dance technique. Solid training in this genre will allow a performer to easily adjust to the various dance styles seen in dance and musical theatre industries. Our classes place equal emphasis on technique, alignment, terminology and execution as well as musicality and a love of the art form.  All students will take two ballet classes per week.  Placement will be determined by Cheryl Morris, Director of Dance.

   

Jazz

Jazz classes study a variety of styles within the genre of jazz - classical technique, contemporary dance, and lyrical jazz. These classes build on the foundation a student gains through ballet and teaches them to use their technique as they explore different steps and styles. Students will work on strength and flexibility, as well as the execution of various kicks, leaps, and turns. Combinations will be used to develop performance skills.  Placement will be determined by Cheryl Morris, Director of Dance. 

      

Tap

Tap focuses on developing rhythm and speed through intricate footwork. Tap is an integral part of many Broadway musical and a student with a solid training in this area will have more options available to them. Students will learn proper execution and rhythm for steps, as well as the ability to execute steps at various speeds.  Placement will be determined by Cheryl Morris, Director of Dance.

   

Group Piano

Group piano focuses on the fundamentals of proper piano technique through scales, exercises and songs. Classes include theory, ear training, sight reading, ensemble work, correct piano fingering, proper hand position, and rhythm drills.

     

Private Voice

Students will receive instruction on vocal production and placement, breathing techniques, diction, tone and ear training. Students will study vocal anatomy, including the respiratory muscles, the larynx and throat structures, and how they affect singing. Instruction will also be given in music theory and performance skills.

Lessons are 1/2 hour per week.
